W/C 30th October 2017
The children came back after the half term with lots of enthusiasm and excitement about Halloween and Bonfire Night, we hope you all enjoyed the celebrations. In our first week we have started many new units, here is an outline of what the children will be working on in the next few weeks.
We are working through a non-fiction interactive e-book called The Museum of Fun to find out the varied ways that people have enjoyed entertainment throughout history and throughout the world. We have used ipads and other media to carry out research on this.
We have continued work on fractions and looked back at place value before we move on to written methods of multiplication and division over the next couple of weeks.
We have been looking closely at the sacrament of marriage in the Catholic Church and will see how it differs from a civil wedding ceremony. The children have been sharing their stories and experiences of wedding ceremonies and they came up with some lovely prayers to put in to greetings cards.
We have started out new topic of volcanoes in another enquiry based unit. We are considering a case study about a family living in Greenland and the issues they face living in a volcanic region.
On Friday the children started their DT Unit, which is looking at ‘Alarms Systems’. The children will look at where and why we use alarms and will work towards creating an electrical alarm system for a model car that they will build.
Thank you for your continued support in the children’s learning.
